“Zambomba!” by Return Trip Project: A Classical Journey Through Spain
Composer Martin Jeremy Richardson, under the Return Trip Project, unveils “Zambomba!”, a vibrant classical suite inspired by Spain’s rich religious and secular traditions. Rooted in centuries of folk heritage, this work reimagines traditional songs and styles into a dynamic, contemporary classical experience.
Originally written for full symphony orchestra and premiered by the Sofia Philharmonic in July 2025, the suite has now been newly arranged for the ClassicArt ensemble, with an added fourth movement. Each section reflects a moment in the Spanish calendar—from the journey of the Three Kings and the solemn processions of Easter, to harvest songs, springtime ferias, and the explosive energy of flamenco Christmas celebrations.
Blending historical influence, cultural storytelling, and bold orchestration, “Zambomba!” is both a tribute and a celebration—an expressive musical voyage through Spain’s living traditions.
